Das Ruhrgebiet: der Ursprung des Wohlstandes nach dem Krieg. Ein Ort, an dem schwere Arbeit geleistet, besondere Schicksale erlitten wurden. Eine Lebenswelt, die einen speziellen Menschenschlag hervorgebracht hat. Ein einzigartiger Ort – und doch verbunden mit Menschen auf der ganzen Welt, deren Leben zu anderen Zeiten oder in anderen Regionen ebenfalls durch den Bergbau geprägt wurden. Solche „unterirdischen“ Verbindungen werden an diesem Abend zutage gefördert: mit poetischen, witzigen, düsteren Fundstücken aus der Weltliteratur. Von Geschichten aus dem „Black Country“ in England über Erzählungen aus den Minen Afrikas und Asiens bis zu Storys aus amerikanischen Bergwerken sowie aus dem Reich der historischen Ereignisse, der Sagen und Märchen. Eine literarische Revue über das Leben mit dem Bergbau im Ruhrgebiet und andernorts, gelesen von Esther Schweins und Dietmar Bär, komponiert und kommentiert von Thomas Böhm.
